 Welcome to GCNUG...

Welcome to the Greater Charleston .NET User Group (GC.NUG)!

We're an INETA and Microsoft sponsored .NET user group for people in Charleston, SC and the surrounding areas. If you have experience with .NET, or an interest in learning more then this is the place for you. We typically meet on the 2nd Thursday of every month at 6:00pm at Benefit Focus on Daniel Island.

We welcome everyone from newbies to seasoned .NET veterans. All we ask is that you stay moderately on-topic and also respect others on this list. Friendly discussion (and even some arguing) is fine, but persistent flaming or "platform bashing" will not be tolerated.

 Upcoming Meetings

November Meeting - 12 November 2009 6PM

Our next meeting on November 12th, 2009 at Blackbaud on Daniel Island will feature the Greater Charleston .NET User Group meeting in one room with the SQL Server User Group meeting in another room. Both groups will meet at the same location on the same night so you have a choice of which session you’d like to attend.

This month the Greater Charleston .NET User Group is pleased to host Magenic Technology Evangelist and Visual Basic.NET MVP Chris Williams who will be talking about XNA.

What's this XNA thing I keep hearing about?
This session will cover what XNA is (and isn't) along with what's needed to develop with XNA 3.1. We will also cover target platforms of Windows, XBOX 360,  Zune and Surface. We'll go through some demos and take a look at some code, identifying key aspects of the XNA Framework and game development. We'll also discuss the Xbox Live Community Games.

Chris Williams, Technology Evangelist, Magenic

Chris Williams is a Technology Evangelist for Magenic. He is the founder of several .NET User Groups on the east coast, and most recently the Twin Cities XNA User Group and Twin Cities Developers Guild, both in Minneapolis, MN. He is a rabid blogger at BlogusMaximus.net, author of the very popular NINE Questions series and owner of the VB Community site www.ILoveVB.net. His most recent project is the Charity Fragathon fundraiser event.

He's also a Visual Basic .NET MVP, MCT, MCSD (.NET) Early Adopter, MCAD, INETA Speaker, freelance game developer, occasional author, tech editor, conference speaker, vintage arcade game collector and INETA Community Champion. He also plays a pretty mean guitar in Rock Band.

Lastly, yes, the rumors are true, he loves Visual Basic so much he even named his dog VB.
